Force India finally reveals the VJM08 following delays

Following delays in the build of the new VJM08, Force India has finally revealed images of their 2015 challenger.

The Silverstone-based outfit were unable to take part in the two test sessions at Jerez and Barcelona but now the new car is ready, just in time for the final pre-season test before racing starts in the Australian Grand Prix next month.

Force India did some track running using the 2014 car at the Circuit de Catalunya and it was vital for the team and drivers in preparation for the new Formula 1 season.

Ahead of the final pre-season test which begins at Barcelona, Force India have now released the first image of the VJM08 and confirmed the car will arrive in Spain on the second day of running.

“The VJM08 will arrive in Barcelona on Friday morning and the final set-up will take place in the garage at the track,” Force India’s chief operating officer Otmar Szafnauer said.

“We are aiming to get out on Friday and the new car will run as much as possible over the weekend.”

Szafnauer said the delayed build process had made rapid progress of late.

“It has progressed well over the last few days and the car has now been fired up at the factory,” he said.

“That’s always the key moment when the car truly comes to life.

“We have seen a tremendous effort from every department over the last few months to get us to this stage and we’re looking forward to seeing the car take to the track later this week.”

Although the team unveiled their newly “aggressive” livery for this season back in January, the first rendered image of the VJM08 reveals a shorter nose design than seen before.

Force India are once again powered by Mercedes power units and will field drivers Nico Hulkenberg and Sergio Perez.

  1. Hey Leaf!

Sorry I missed your call the other day, was watching the Chelsea match! Speaking of winning, if cars were placed on the starting grid according to their looks this would be towards the front of the pack, holy flapsticks does it look good!!!!!!
The colours, the lines, really is a beautiful livery. Very 80’s actually, in a really stylish, yet flashy way.

EDIT: HAH! Just checked their Twatter page and indeed, another 80’s icon, Optimus Prime no less, approves of the design! #morethanmeetstheeye #robotsinthesky #pointlesshashtags:P

    Hope you’re feeling better. 😉

    1. Thanks for the message A.C.

Just a few more days until the new Formula 1 season. I cannot wait for the action to be started. It’s all change on the drivers front especially the top teams like McLaren, Ferrari and Red Bull.

I still believe Mercedes will set the pace. Just look at their testing form. Over a second advantage compared to their rivals.

As for the colours/liveries. I fear the cars are just 50 shades of grey. No, I don’t want to associate it with that film but I must admit the visions/branding created by the in-house graphic designers at these teams should have done a better job. I’m looking at you Sauber!

Anyway, be sure to check out this blog throughout the season. Will be updating with the latest reports on the Grand Prix weekend.

      1. Yup, I’m looking forward to it, hopefully with less technical glitches this time around, so we can see a proper showdown between Nico and Lewis.
As for the cars, man, more like 10 shades of grey!!! 😛

Honestly, for me it’s 100% between Lotus and Force India in terms of liveries, and even then, compared to some of the classics way back when, they’d be considered plain/normal. Not bad, but not exactly shocking either. It’s a shame really, but the imagination and risk taking that used to be a fundamental aspect of making your car stand out back in the day has been completely lost in F1 for the most part. It would make for an interesting documentary actually, what’s to blame more? Lack of imagination on the designers part, of fear/refusal to take risks due to pressure from marketing/advertising partners? I imagine it’s more the latter than the former, but still, it’s a shame that things have gotten so stale on the livery side. Remember this beauty!?!?

Now THAT’S how you do a livery!!!!!
And of course all the other classics, including the Johnny Player Lotus, Martini Brabham, Gold Leaf Lotus, 7UP Jordan and the list goes on. It’s odd, but for some reason the more commercial F1 gets the LESS striking the liveries generally become, isn’t that ironic? As Ms. Crow would say!!!! >_<

Anyway, I'll be sure to leave a comment when I can as things heat up throughout the season,
fingers crossed it's as good as the last one! ^_^
